Dr Peter Berton, FRACS, is a Newcastle-based knee surgical specialist with rooms at “The Newcastle Knee Clinic” Clinic at Kotara. Dr Berton is known for offering evidence-based articular cartilage, ligament and meniscal injury management as well as management of osteoarthritic problems.

Through his extensive international learning experiences Dr Peter Berton has developed special expertise in minimally invasive arthroscopic and computer guided techniques to optimize management of conditions including

Mission Statement

Dr Berton is committed to keeping people healthy and active by maintaining mobility and independence. He has been offering a “comprehensive” knee service for 25 years. Dr Berton believes that an early correct diagnosis of a knee problem will fast track proper treatment and has worked with local imaging service providers to bring the latest world–class imaging techniques to help improve knee injury and arthritic management for the people of the Hunter Valley.

Evidence Based Treatments

Dr. Berton ensures provision of contemporary evidence based treatments to treat complex knee conditions by attending International conferences and being a member of International Society Arthroscopy Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine [ISAKOS] and Arthroscopy Association of North America [AANA].

Dr. Berton strives to provide every patient with specific individualized state-of-the-art management to treat complex knee problems by taking the time to understand each person’s needs and goals. Dr Berton is committed to finding a shared solution.

Team Effort

Dr. Berton recognises that providing the best knee injury and problem treatments to his patients requires the collaboration of a strong team inclusive of Radiologists, Other Surgeons, Physiotherapists , Allied Health, Rehab and Injury Management Providers, and his Hospital team. For over 10 years Dr Berton on a fortnightly basis and in recent years a weekly basis helps and educates the next generation of Surgeons and as they prepare for their future careers.

Dr Berton, his team and the patient all work for the best possible outcome-an optimized and accelerated recovery and return to active lifestyle.
